Mark Kleingers is an expert in data models and data exchange. Translation: He's a standards junkie. For the past six years, he has been an active member and contributor to MISMO*. For the past three years, he has co-chaired the MISMO Title Insurance Workgroup. Recently. Kleingers was asked along with a fellow MISMO colleague to oversee the validation of the MISMO data model itself.
He has worked hard to get key industry groups and agencies--including the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the GSEs and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)--to adopt MISMO standards on title. His work has gone a long way in helping the title industry to normalize around MISMO as the data exchange standard. He explains, "With the ongoing focus on regulatory and compliance oversight, a standard that facilitates auditable communications between business partners for title transactions is a big step forward."
Kleingers was one of the first employees at eLynx, and has 16 years of experience in mortgage technology. He started with the company in September 2001 after leaving the manufacturing process automation field. He'd been working in a steel mill where he met and worked with the person who became the co-founder of eLynx.
What was his first impression of mortgage industry technology back then? "It was a lot of 'green screens' and entrenched mainframe technology," he says. "It seemed behind other industries, even compared to manufacturing process control."
