Lofty ambitions: in many markets today, converted old urban buildings are becoming prime loft space for a growing market of tenants.

Lofts are hot. If you Google the word "lofts," you'll get 624,000 results pointing you to projects in places you would expect (San Francisco, Chicago, Manhattan) and some you wouldn't (Galveston, Texas; Tampa, Florida; Columbus, Ohio).

All over the country, warehouses, mills, factories and office buildings are being converted to residential use. In some markets, loft buildings are being constructed from the ground up with features that mimic what you'd find in converted buildings. The is even a subdivision outside of Denver where "loft-style" single-family detached homes give you the "look" without the urban environment.
